Pygmy hippos are native to West Africa and are one of the smallest species of hippopotamus, with adults typically weighing between 400-600 pounds. Despite their small size, they are still members of the hippopotamus family and share many of the same characteristics, including their distinctive barrel-shaped bodies and short, stumpy legs. Poppy, our new pygmy hippo, is a great example of these unique features, and we're excited for visitors to see her up close.

About Poppy

One of the most interesting things about pygmy hippos is their unique skin, which is almost completely hairless. This helps them to stay cool in the warm waters of their native habitat, and it also makes them look particularly cute and endearing. Poppy's skin is a lovely shade of brown, and it's sure to captivate visitors of all ages.
